Eye Examinations

Of the five senses, vision is without doubt the most important. Ask most people which of their senses they would be most afraid of losing and the vast majority would answer that it would be their eyesight. Yet eyesight is one of the most delicate of the senses, the eyes being easily damaged and prone to deterioration over time. That’s why it’s worth getting your eyes checked by professionals who not only know how to correct your eyesight, but also how to spot the early signs of eye disease and / or deterioration.

When you come to Paul Lewis opticians, the eye examination is fundamental to your visit. It is during your eye examination that one of our fully qualified optometrists will, through a series of questions and procedures determine the health of your eyes and whether you need some form of correction to help you see better.

Our optometrist will start by asking various questions, such as your reason for your consultation and will continue with a series of procedures which are divided into two categories, those that evaluate the physical state of your eyes and surrounding area and those that assess how well you can see. Although each examination is unique to you, the routine generally follows a certain order as outlined below and takes about 30 minutes for an average adult.

For a detailed overview of what’s covered in the test, please see our eye examination procedure page.

Prices for an eye examination are currently £22.00 however many people qualify for a free sight test. We will determine when you call whether on not you are eligible for a free NHS test.
